If the environment SEO is close to you, you must have come across the concept of link juice. But can you explain what this phenomenon is to someone for whom the positioning is it black magic? According to a well-known maxim, if you can't explain something simply, it means you don't understand it sufficiently. That is why we have created this article to describe what link juice is and why it is so important for SEO.
Link juice - definition
Link juice is a term from the scope of link buildingwhich is one of the most important elements of SEO. The simplest definition of link juice is that it is the power that the link transmits to the target site. In other words, it is the power transmitted to the linked site by the linking site. Every link conveys this power, but the amount of power is not always the same. It depends on several factors, which we will discuss later in this article. Furthermore, so-called link juice is the value transferred not only by external (external) linking, but also internal linking.
Does every link have the same value?
As we mentioned earlier, the answer to the question in the subtitle is - of course NOT. A link added on a freshly established blog will work differently to one you acquire on a popular site visited by thousands of internet users every day. Why? Every site has a certain reputation, authority (authority), which is shared across its sub-pages. When linking takes place, this value is transferred elsewhere - the power of SEO flows between pages. In simplest terms, if we have a page, the more other pages with high authority link to it (high quality links), the more juice we will get! Unfortunately, the newly established blog will not be as powerful as an established portal.
Remember that link juice is a phenomenon that also exists under other names in the SEO community. It is, among other things, "equity link" - A term that can be translated as 'link equity'. Other names you may come across are SEO link power and simply SEO juice.
Distribution of site power - what does it look like?
Another important issue is the distribution of the links themselves. Does everyone get the same amount of power? The simplest rule of thumb is that the amount of juice a site you link to will receive is proportional to how many total links you have placed. We'd like to tell you that it's always that transparent, and it's enough to divide 100% of juice into, say, 4 links, which means that each site will get 25% of power. Unfortunately, Google's algorithms are much more complicated.
In order for the transfer of power to take place and make sense, it is essential that several important points are taken into account. First and foremost, the link should be in the article thematicand not be quite 'off the top of my head'. Unnatural linking, for example to a nail shop in an article on natural cosmetics, will not benefit us or users. At most, it will cause a laugh.
The second issue is the total number of links on the page where the one leading to our site is to appear. You can deduce for yourself that if a hundred other links appear in the same content in addition to ours, it will not make sense because it will get lost in the clutter of the other links, not to mention the meagre power it will receive.
Be sure to check whether the link leading to your site has the attribute dofollow. The nofollow attribute admittedly only signals to robots that such links can be ignored, but usually no power is transferred through these links. The same applies to pages with the attribute noindex. With links on pages not indexed in the search engine, there will be no power flow.
Why is link juice important?
We have already written so much about what the SEO power conveyed by links is, but we have not explained why it is so important in the context of SEO and efforts to bring a brand to the next level. The importance of link juice is fundamental to SEO because, thanks to the transferred power, linked pages rise to higher positions in Google until they reach the top 10! It probably doesn't take anyone else to convince you how important it is to acquire links and at the same time gain power from good quality sites.
Remember that sometimes Less is better, also in SEO. It happens that a site that has acquired more links is lower in Google search results than one that has fewer. How does this happen? More links does not mean more link juice! It means that the site that has acquired fewer links has ensured that they are of high quality. As a result, its status is better than that of a site that focuses on quantity.
Not only external links
We can talk about link juice not only in the context of the power flowing in from external sites, but also in the context of the power flowing inside a given site. It is for this reason that during SEO audits, it is recommended that the structure of a page be changed or corrected accordingly. The purpose of this is to show not only users, but also Google robots which pages within the domain are the most important.
Link juice - two strategies
The link building strategy that digital marketing and the related issue of link juice encompasses is very important when it comes to improving a website's online visibility. SEO agencies usually take one of two approaches, and it should be noted that each approach has its advantages and disadvantages. The first strategy involves auditing the links of a site's competitors and acquiring the same. The second is to acquire links from sites where the competition does not link. The choice of one of these solutions depends on the individual situation of a given company and its specifics. It is worth noting, however, that in the second case we do not share the SEO juice with the competition.
How to check link juice?
Google Page Rank is the part of Google's algorithm that determines a website's ranking position. Unfortunately, there are no official tools for determining link strength. There is, however, an online some unofficial metrics and tools that report on the authority of sites and publish link juice data. This is, for example, DA (Domain Authority) and PA (Page Authority) from moz.com or TF (Trust Flow) and CF (Citation Flow) from majestic.com.
